Is it just me, or is there an increased number of dating agency advertisements appearing on television in January? E-harmony; "We will match you with compatible singles, join us and find out why we're different!"

As far as I am concerned, the intentions of these advertisements are overtly conspicuous. The celebratory period is over, the overindulgence in food and alcohol has somewhat ceased (well as much as can ever be in "Booze Britain"). People during this caliginously morose winter month are feeling vulnerable without the distractions of festive parties. In all likelihood, many will have been subjected to the pestering of family members, the expectations of life; the stage of partnership and reproduction thrust upon them.

The reality of life has returned and the mating call is imminent. E-Harmony and Match.com know this. Those wily old foxes.

There are multifarious examples of the self-indulgent, self-absorbed, egocentric nature of the human being. You don't have to look far, in fact, intrinsically we all hold very selfish values, it is inherent within our very being.

The problem I have, call it hypocrisy if you wish, is the overwhelmingly egocentric personality. The materialist, the narcissist, those who feel superior. Your hedonistic urge to feed yourself full of destructive, empty, materialistic pleasures in a world consumed with tragedy is absurd. Bono, for example, is a man who preaches to the world about donating to the powerless starving masses - yet in one of the most grotesque tales I have had the misfortune of hearing - the same man spent one thousand pounds to purchase a first class ticket flight... for his fucking hat to arrive safely into his phony hands. The ambivalence between the actions of the wealthy, I believe, is down to their ego being fed by the contributions they are making, it lessens the guilt of their riches. Essentially, charity is another contribution to themselves.

That really is just the tip of the iceberg though, human solipsism is ubiquitous. Feelings of superiority are rife in terms of race, religion, nationality, sex, social class. At every level. Anything that could possibly be used to differentiate us from them is divisive and always successful with the mind-numbingly ignorant. To be fair, it's not our fault, it's not your fault nor is it mine. It is the society we live in, the structures in place and the history that has shaped the people we are today. You are what you are because of many different factors you personally have no influence over. Your opinions are shaped subconsciously from birth, human beings have impressionable minds, we learn from others. It is how we have managed to survive. In my subjective opinion, I don't believe we have the greatest degree of free will with regards to our behaviour, I do however believe as a species we have the ability to learn. Through learning, our patterns of behaviour can change, through a greater understanding of how massively fucked up everything is, people will desire change.

I don't believe as a species we are all completely terrible, despite my misanthropic beliefs I still have great respect for the actions of many human beings. The ideas of these individuals need to be transferred onto the majority. The question is, do people really care? My highly sceptical answer is no, no people do not care. People are attracted to conventional methods of thinking, repetitively ritualised actions and expectations. Even when financial institutions collapse, even as the less wealthy are left to pick up the pieces, it's OK. Because we passively adapt to the lifestyle, it becomes the norm and apathy breeds.

Basically, people are shit. But we shouldn't really worry TOO much about the subject considering the extinction of our species is inevitable. GAD, I didn't even get started on the superiority of bacteria in the hierarchical food chain... next time.

Neglect isn't a very nice word. Although I must use it to describe my recent behaviour to this blog; my sort of measly excuse is the fact I had fucked off to Australia for a bit to see my sister who currently lives there.

Australia was nice, I would have liked to visit New Zealand too but unfortunately my funding is pathetic at the moment.

I am very partial to snakes and well any animals in general. I think my love for other creatures is compensating for my misanthropy. Sort of balancing it all out really hah.

Gutted I missed Dinosaur Jr, although sacrifices must be made. I like the laid-back nature of Australia, couldn't really see myself living there though. I prefer European culture, each country is so different, each individual area within a country in Europe can vary drastically. I like that changeable nature, mixes it up a bit. If I lived in Berlin the prospect of getting on a train to a neighbouring country is easily available. Whichever neighbouring country it is will contrast largely to the lifestyle you'd have adapted to. Change is good. I'm probably very partial to change because I've seen people live their lives rotting away on the island I grew up in. Routine, monotony, gossip, philistine behaviour. If you travel, you mix with different races, cultures, social norms. Only helps create a less ignorant, less prejudicial personality.

My infatuation with owls will live on forever. Alright that's a bit of a hyperbole, it will live until I inevitably die.

This month has been pretty cool, mother told me she's booked me to go to Australia as well, saw pictures of the place my sister is staying on Google earth. My Life in Orange: Growing Up with the Guru is an account of a child growing up in the Osho movement led by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. The book is a firsthand account, written by Tim Guest years after his experiences, at age 27. The book was published in 2004 by Granta Books. The book's title is a reference to the term "the orange people" – which was used to refer to members of the Osho movement due to the color they dyed their clothes.

Guest describes how his mother was initially raised in strict Catholicism but later turned to a tape of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh after going through a period of experimenting with sex and drugs. She dyed all of her clothes orange, took on the name of "Ma Prem Vismaya", and "Yogesh" for her son, and moved to an Osho movement commune near Bombay. Guest's mother moved to many different communes, and had leadership roles within the movement, eventually running a commune in Suffolk. Guest recounts how he regretted the absence of his mother's presence during this time, and describes controversial living conditions with other children at the various ashrams. Guest and his mother moved to the 64,000-acre commune in Oregon, but his mother was demoted in position and sent to live at a different commune in Cologne. Each gig holds a different type of person, so if you go to so many you can really tell the amusing contrasting differences, for example, the Placebo gig the other night had a disgraceful audience. I went because of the nostalgia induced by the memory of getting the CD when I was eleven. I did thoroughly enjoy it when they played "Every You And Every Me". The crowd however was just full of fucking idiots. It is quite unfathomable. It was also held in a terrible arena, the biggest venue in Glasgow, SECC.

My Bloody Valentine crowd was polar opposite, just appreciating the music properly, Broadcast in Stereo was also a totally different experience. I'm avoiding the SECC, unless something comes up like when the Pixies played.

The neighbours, well Maggie specifically put in an official complaint against us, well me specifically, I am definitely being singled out for persecution. I am almost positive my flatmate is just as bad, just comes across as the Golden Boy.

This weekend was INCREDIBLE. I never thought I'd love Butlins so much haha, honestly though, some of the towns in England are pretty shitty; they make some of the rough areas in Glasgow look quite nice, and Glasgow is called Stab City hah.

But yeah, when we first arrived we looked around - caravans on sale - if I had a caravan and could drive that would be fabulous. I could deal with being trailer trash.

There were three venues, both inside, not too big so it was very intimate and the crowd of people were very laid back, meaning it was quite simple to get to the front. Except for certain things, you had to obviously be organised for Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine's first performance, the queue was insane. We didn't have a wristband for the first night, just the third because each person received a wristband for only one of the My Bloody Valentine performances due to capacity control and equal footing.

So when they played first night we stumbled across a cinema playing a strange black and white French film named "Mouchete". The film consisted of a young girl being rather promiscuous with an older man, her ill mother wasn't happy, the girl then heads to a field in search the older man who is shooting rabbits. Clearly depressed by the outcome, the girl runs to the lake and attempts suicide by rolling down the hill into the water, yet has a failed attempt. She then goes two metres further up hill to roll down for momentum, and thus dies. Now that is a French film.

Later, we wandered back into the venue and noticed MBV was accessible so we GOT IN. Went slightly crazy, oh fuck 15minutes of pure NOISE, everyone put their earplugs in haha. It amused me.

I just watched this documentary on Berlin, has made me extremely excited for New Year, it had this part on this controversial 1920s actress Anita Berber, I found her lifestyle very interesting, especially for those days. Must have been outrageous ha.

Anita Berber (June 10, 1899 – November 10, 1928) was a German dancer, actress, writer, and prostitute who was the subject of an Otto Dix painting. She lived during the Weimar period.

Born in Leipzig to divorced bohemian parents (a cabaret artist and a violinist), she was raised mainly by her grandmother in Dresden. By the time she was 16, she had moved to Berlin and made her debut as a cabaret dancer. By 1918 she was working in film, and she began dancing nude in 1919. She was scandalous, androgynous and infamous, quickly making a name for herself on the Berlin scene. She wore heavy dancer’s make-up, which on the black and white photos and films of the time came across as jet black lipstick painted across the heart-shaped part of her skinny lips, and charcoaled eyes.

Her hair was cut fashionably into a short bob and was frequently bright red, as in 1925 when the German painter Otto Dix painted a portrait of her, titled "The Dancer Anita Berber". Her dancer friend and sometime lover Sebastian Droste, who performed in the film Algol (1920), was skinny and had black hair with gelled up curls much like sideburns. Neither of them wore much more than lowslung loincloths and Anita occasionally a corsage worn well below her small breasts.[1]

Her performances broke boundaries with their androgyny and total nudity, but it was her public appearances that really challenged taboos. Berber's overt cocaine use and bisexuality were matters of public chatter. She was allegedly the sexual slave of a woman and the woman's 15-year-old daughter. She could often be seen in Berlin's hotel lobbies, nightclubs and casinos; she would walk around naked except for a sable fur, carrying a pet monkey and a silver brooch full of cocaine, while flaunting her lesbian lovers—removing the barrier between performance and normal life. Besides being a cocaine addict, she was an alcoholic, but at the age of 29, gave up both suddenly and completely. According to Mel Gordon in The Seven Addictions and Five Professions of Anita Berber, she was diagnosed with severe tuberculosis while performing abroad. She died on November 10, 1928 in a Kreuzberg hospital and was buried at St. Thomas cemetery in Neukölln. According to Lucinda Jarrett she was married three times (secondly to Droste) and died after a collapse in Damascus.

It's is the French Film Festival at the Glasgow film theatre, sounds completely pretentious but whatever, I fucking love foreign films. They are always a bit different, as you might say. The last two I have seen have involved some form of incest ahaha.

Mother actually purchased me the strangest film for Christmas called "Lovesick", It's a Bulgarian film about a girl who has gone to college, then ends up getting it on with this other girl who is actually having an incestuous relationship with her brother! Thanks mum, you're great. No really, thanks, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Then last one I watched with Craig, heh, he had no idea what was coming for him. Was a French film called "Ma Mere", it involved this young guy moving in with his mother because his father was recently deceased. His mother is some Madame who enjoys watching her son get it on with her prostitutes haha, my descriptive methods are perfect.. sure. Basically at the end the mother dies and he goes in to view the body, then starts masturbating, haaaaa. Craig was pretty much scarred for life, see French film festival! Can't wait. I plan to watch a film called "The Mother & The Whore", sounds sexy.

To be honest, I think world cinema involves subjects that are unacceptable in mainstream, conformist theatre, that's why I am partial.

Seeing as I was born in the wrong decade I have to go see gigs on that are reunions such as the Slits, Stooges, Fleetwood Mac and the Specials.

But honestly, seeing the Specials in Liverpool was just incredible. I saw them at T In The Park but it's always better in a venue specifically for the fans of the group.

It was wild, we met the band 'cause they were staying at our hotel. Ended up getting rather drunk with the bassist Roddy. Mad times.

Oh jesus the boiler in my flat exploded the other day, it was very crazy indeed. I just twisted some knob slightly to increase the pressure 'cause there's a leak. Then it burst. I freaked out like some bastard girl and screamed down the phone to my stepsister absolute nonsense. It flooded Craigs room a bit, well a lot. I managed to twist the bastard back on eventually but the damage was done. It's probably a good thing Craig is away at sea right now so the room can dry out. However, I guess if he was here it would never have happened haaa.

My friend is doing a plastic surgery nursing placement at the moment, I'm rather envious. Watching people's faces getting cut up just entirely appeals to me, haaa, I kid. No I am not kidding, I am jealous. However she said she was still hungover from the other night, so she felt like regurgitating her internal organs all over the surgeons during the process. Future of the NHS baby!
